Zoya Cho

Hi and happy hump-day-of-the-week, everyone! <3

Today, I have for you Cho, the last of Zoya's True Spring 2012 Collection. Cho is a neutral beige with yellow and peach undertones and a shimmer finish.

I really enjoy neutral polishes with shimmer finishes, and Cho is no different. I always expect neutrals to be understated and maybe a bit dull, but the silver shimmers in here complement the neutral base and add a fascinating glow to the color. Zoya's website says that this would be "especially nice for skin tones with olive or yellow undertones" and I agree. It looks soft and lovely against my warm skin tone.

The formula is what I have come to expect from Zoya. It applies thinly and easily, without dragging or clumping. Drying time was typical for a Zoya polish. I used two coats for my swatches, and there was just the tiniest bit of visible nail line, so you may need three coats for total opacity if you do thin coats.

Now that I have had the chance to try out all the polishes from the True Collection, my favorites are Bevin, Skylar, Lotus, and Cho. Bevin is a beautiful dirty green cream, perfect for the spring. Skylar and Lotus are gorgeous with their shimmers that perfectly compliment their muted base color. And Cho looks lovely against my skin tone.

What do you think of the collection? What are you favorites? Will you be taking any of them home with you?

You can find Cho on Zoya.com for $8 for 0.5oz.

Zoya Farah

Hi everyone! <3

Today, I have for you the first of two neutrals from Zoya's True Spring 2012 Collection. Farah is best summed up as a khaki-inspired sandy beige with a creme finish.

I had some trouble with Farah's application. The formula was a little thicker than the rest of the collection. The brush refused to fan out the way it usually does with Zoya brushes, so I had to do more strokes to cover each nail, making each coat of polish thicker.

This color is the only one in the collection that does not wow me. I am not a big fan of khaki colors on clothing because I find it to be a bit boring. As such, I find wearing a khaki color on my nails to also be a bit bland. However, if you are looking for a non-offensive color to wear for work or if khaki is a color that you normally like, then I think you will find what you are looking for in Farah. :-)

You can find Farah on Zoya.com for $8 for 0.5oz.

Zoya Lotus

Today, continuing with Zoya's True Spring 2012 Collection, I have Lotus for you guys. Lotus is the second purple in the collection, and just like Tru, it has a shimmer finish.

Lotus has a soft, dusty, gray-influenced purple base with tons of reflective pink shimmer. This is another polish in the True collection where the base is a muted, soft color, and the shimmers provide a lovely, luminous contrast. Lotus really surprised me. In the bottle, it looks a little bland, but once on my nails, the pink shimmer brings the polish to life and makes it look like it's glowing from within. It's gorgeous! :-)

The formula is thin and easy to work with. Two coats build up to an opaque coverage, and drying time is fast.

You can find Lotus on Zoya.com for $8 for 0.5oz.

Zoya Tru

Happy weekend, lovelies! <3

Today, I have another lovely polish from Zoya's True Spring 2012 Collection. Tru is a deep reddish-grape purple with shimmers that sparkle pink, orange, and red. It is one of two purple polishes in this collection.

The shimmer adds a lovely depth and richness to the purple base. It is similar to that in Skylar, with larger fleck pieces that really show through at certain angles, but not so much at others. It almost looks like the polish is winking at you as it shimmers in and out of appearance.

The formula is a little thicker, although it is still creamy and easy to apply. The thicker formula allows for total opaque coverage in two coats.

You can find Tru on Zoya.com for $8 for 0.5oz.

Zoya Skylar

Hello everybody! :-)

Today I have for you Skylar, the second of six polishes from Zoya's True Spring 2012 Collection. Following in the style of soft and muted colors for spring, Skylar is a soft, dusty blue with lots of gold and silver shimmer.

The gold and silver shimmers in this polish are made up of larger fleck pieces, so they are more noticeable than typical polish shimmers. They stand out in a lovely contrast to the more faded, grayish blue base. Skylar comes from the same color family as Butter London's Victoriana, though there are enough differences to keep the two distinct from each other.

The formula is nice and thin on this one, although if you favor very thin coats, you may need to do three for total opacity. The drying time on this is very fast, due to the shimmer finish and the thin formula.

Muted, faded colors are very much in this spring season. Do you have a list of favorite muted colors that you enjoy wearing for spring? Will you be adding Skylar to your list?

You can find Skylar on Zoya.com for $8 for 0.5oz.

Zoya Bevin

Now that spring is officially here, let's celebrate by taking a look at Zoya's True Spring 2012 Collection. First up is Bevin, a muted sage green with a creme finish.

Bevin is an interesting take on the traditional pastel colors of spring. If you take a light green pastel, combine it with gray, you would end up with Bevin. It reminds me of one of the paint colors my husband and I looked at for the walls of our house.

I did not have any trouble with the application. It is the typical great Zoya formula. It flows onto the nail, and the consistency is spot on. It is not too thick or goopy, and it is not too thin or hard to control. Color payoff is great, too. It is opaque in two coats.

Do you wear greens and pastels in the spring? What do you think of Bevin?

You can find Bevin on Zoya.com for $8 for 0.5oz.

Zoya Holly

Happy St. Patrick's Day, dear readers! :-) It's the day of the year when everyone decks out in all things green, so of course I have to participate! I decided to wear Holly from Zoya's 2011 Holiday Gems and Jewels Collection. Holly is a rich green with subtle yellow shimmer in a metallic finish.

On the nail, this color makes me think of the deep green forest in the summer time, when the trees are at full-bloom and golden sunshine filters in through the leaves. The formula is wonderful, application is easy, and it is close to opaque in one coat (although I did two coats in the pictures to even everything out). If you are looking for a true green with rich depth of color, this is the polish for you. :-)

What green polishes are you wearing to celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

You can find Holly on Zoya.com for $8 for 0.5oz.

Deborah Lippmann Mermaid's Dream

I have for you today Mermaid's Dream from Deborah Lippmann. I am super excited because this is my very first Deborah Lippmann polish! I have been wishing for this polish ever since I first knew of its existence, and after hearing that it was starting to sell out at many stores, I took the plunge and bought it. My husband--who puts up with my crazy love for nail polish--accompanied me across town to search for this, and we finally found it at the second Nordstrom we went to. Now that I have this on my nails, I am happy to report that it has lived up to my very high expectations. :-)

Mermaid's Dream is one of two polishes from Lippmann's Spring 2012 collection. It has a seafoam green base filled with golden shimmer, small gold sparkles, and large blue glitter pieces. This polish is unique (I cannot think of a dupe or even one that comes close) and amazingly complex. It is both a glitter and a shimmer, and it is green, blue, and gold all at the same time. On her inspiration for this polish, Deborah Lippmann said the "vibrant blue and shimmering green shades evoke a peaceful, relaxing feel that reminds me of being seaside... that easy, breezy and carefree feeling you would have on vacation." I think she certainly achieved that feeling with Mermaid's Dream.

Application of this polish is great. It goes on super smooth and easy. As with all glitter polishes, the glitters have a tendency to clump together, leaving some spots glitter-free. I find that dabbing some extra polish on those bald spots and then smoothing it over helps to get even coverage. What you see in my pictures is two coats, but there is a small bit of sheerness left. If you want total opaque coverage, I recommend using a blue or green polish as a base first. I also recommend using top coat with this polish, since the glitter makes it feel gritty without.

You can find Mermaid's Dream at Lippmanncollection.com, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus stores, and other beauty retailers, for $18 for 0.5oz.

Julep Portia

Hiya everyone! Hope your week is going along smoothly! :)

Today I have for you Julep's Portia, which is also from my March Boho Glam Maven Box. Portia is a light blue sheer filled with tons of glittery sparkles.

This is one of those polishes where swatches are super useful because it looks quite different on the nail than in the bottle. Portia's base looks distinctively blue in the bottle, but once on the nail, it is so sheer that the base color does not really show through. It is a mostly clear glittery polish, best used as a topcoat over another color. I tried Portia over Alicia in my swatches. You can see that Portia toned down Alicia's ultra bright color and added some lovely sparkling complexity.

Portia has a great formula and is easy to apply, and it dries to the touch in only a minute or two. The glitters tend to clump together on the nail during application, but that is pretty typical of glitter polishes. I find that dabbing some extra polish on the bald spots and then lightly smoothing it out helps to get even coverage.

That's all for today! Hope the rest of your week is fabulous! <3
