Julep Nessa

Hi dear readers! <3

Today, I have for you Julep's Nessa, from my May It Girl Maven Box. I received my box earlier this week and I have been really excited to try the polishes in there. Nessa is has a bright yellow base with tons of shimmer in a metallic finish.

Nessa is a yellow that leans more lemon-y than gold. It is a bright and cheerful color that works well for the summer. Unfortunately, it has some application issues. Its shimmery and metallic finish makes it really streaky. The brush strokes are exacerbated by the crazily wonky brush that came with this polish. The brush poofs out at the bottom, so that polish would collect there and then dollop onto the nail. It felt like I was using a giant cotton swab to apply the polish!

Really, it was rather comical to use this brush, although I apologize for the less-than-stellar swatches as a result. :D My other bottles that came in the box (Ashley and Kylie) have the exact same wonky brush, and other mavens are sharing that they ran into brush issues with their Maven polishes. Hopefully Julep will sort this all out and send out some replacement brushes.

As it stands, I am a little disappointed with this polish. It is just too full of brush strokes to look good. However, I am not writing off Nessa just yet. It is a beautiful color and has so much potential. I just hope that the application issue is due mostly to the brush problem and it will be better with a new brush. :-)

Don't forget to enter my current giveaway for a chance to win the entire Zoya Surf Collection containing 6 brand new bottles of polish! <3

  1. I just opened all of mine today and one out of the three had the puffed out brush. Mine was in Ashley...It sucks that it's so streaky...cuz it's such a pretty color

    1. Too bad you got a bad brush too. I emailed Julep. Their customer service is usually quite top notch, so I'm hoping this will be taken care of in a few days. :-)

  3. Do you have any extra empty bottles lying around? You could always decant it into a different bottle that has a better brush! :D

    1. That's a good idea, but I don't because I have never finish a bottle of polish lol. I have too many bottles of polish for that to happen. :D But I did email Julep, so hopefully this will be taken care of soon.

  4. The brush is a bummer but the color is awesome! I really love it even though it's making me a little sad in heart - this was suppose to be my addon for my own box but then I had to skip it because of financials :-S
*sign* I'm bad. I spent much more then I'm suppose to...
But how can you blame me when it's looking so summer???

    1. Oooh you got a box too? Which profile did you get? Or do you mean that you had to skip the addon and the regular box? That is sad. *hugs* :( But I totally understand financial worries. And I would not blame you for sure. :P

  5. Ohh Yun I'm sorry all three of the polishes have the same nasty brush! I think you should try what The Sneakerette proposed or... cut the brush evenly yourself. It can be a true mess, as you can imagine :p

    1. I know, all three of them had the problem! What are the odds lol. That's a good idea. Julep brushes are a little longer, so cutting off the ends might just work. I emailed Julep today, so hopefully they will send me replacement brushes. But if not, I'll have a backup idea! :-)

  9. Gorgeous color, and it looks amazing on you! This is my love and dislike of Julep, all wrapped up into one... awesome color, ridiculous application. And what is up with the boxes this month? I've heard of peeps not getting their magnet, too.

    1. Thanks, sweetie! It's the first yellow polish I have tried and I really like it! Hard to do anything interesting with a magnetic polish if there is no magnet lol. Julep's customer service has been good in the few times I have dealt with them, so hopefully all the brush and magnet issues get sorted out in a jiffy! :-)

  12. To be honest I feel that Julep doesn't make very good polish. I either have a bad brush or the formula itself is streaky and weird. Nice color though.

    1. Julep just isn't as consistent with their formulas as some of the other brands are. It can be hit or miss from bottle to bottle and shade to shade. It's a shame because they have some really pretty colors. Hope they get better as time goes on so that we can enjoy the colors without worrying about the formulation.
