KBShimmer Spring 2014 Collection - My Picks!

Hi, you guys! Hope your week is going well! :) It's finally starting to feel like spring over here. It was actually sunny yesterday, with blue skies! Of course I was stuck inside at work because it was a weekday, but beggars can't be choosers. I'm just getting over a pretty miserable cold. It had me good for two weeks and I'm still coughing a little, but I'm thankful to be back to feeling mostly normal and sleeping through the night again. :)

Today, I've got my picks from the new KBShimmer Spring 2014 Collection. It's a large collection of 16 polishes consisting of a variety of finishes—glitters, holos, and cremes. It's a fun set of colors and finishes, sure to have something to satisfy whatever you love. For me, four totally stood out and made my heart sing, so I wanted to share those with you.

Chick Me Out
Chick Me Out is a bright sunshine yellow with a creme, almost jelly-like finish. It was still a little streaky at two coats (which is pretty typical for a yellow), so I added a third coat for the swatches. Due to its jelly-like finish, it dries to a high-gloss shine. I personally love shades like this. It's so cheerful that it's hard not to feel buoyant when wearing this. :)

Daisy About You
Daisy About You is a light green creally with white, bright green, and lavender glitter pieces in a variety of sizes. There's plenty of glitters, so no fishing is needed. But you do have to dab and move the glitters into position on the nails. It's not hard to do, but if you don't, all the bigger glitters will just get brushed off the free edge as you do a normal brush stroke. The hardest glitter to get is the big purple daisy, but even that wasn't too bad. I swirled my brush around and quickly picked up two. I did three coats for the swatches and was able to get great coverage and glitter distribution at that. This is so pretty on the nails, and I love the unique combination of glitters and base color. KBShimmer is always so good at throwing together colors I never would have thought to put together and make the resulting combination look amazing! :)

A Touch of Glass
A Touch of Glass is a slightly muted, light aqua mint with a creme finish. It has just a hint of shimmers that isn't very noticeable, but gives a nice sheen to the overall finish. The formula is nice and self-leveling, making for easy application. I did three coats for the swatches for complete even coverage. I love a good mint, so this is right up my alley. It's the most delicate seafoam shade, and looks so fresh and sophisticated on the nails.

Belle of the Mall
Belle of the Mall is a pinkish coral-red jelly with various small and medium-sized silver holographic glitters. The formula's one of the best I've encountered for a glitter. It's dense with glitters and has a thick enough consistency to achieve good coverage while still being easy to apply. You can just dab on the glitters where you'd like, and they stay put nicely with subsequent brush strokes. I did just two coats for the swatches, and while you can see some nail lines in the pictures, it's hardly noticeable in real life. If I were wearing it, I'd probably stop at two coats because it's sufficient coverage for me, but you can add a third coat to achieve total coverage if you'd prefer. This one doesn't dry as glossy, so you may need to add top coat for a high-gloss shine. The only odd thing I noticed about this polish is that some of the bigger glitters have lines of scratches in them. You can see it on the ones on my index and pinky fingers, and also on the ones in the bottle. I haven't seen anyone else mention this, so it's probably just an isolated issue with my bottle.

Now that you've seen my picks from this collection, I'd love to know what you think! :D What are you favorites? Which ones will you be adding to your stash?

You can find the KBShimmer Spring 2014 shades at KBShimmer.com for $7.50 to $8.75 and at HarlowandCo.org for $8.50 to $9 for each 0.5 fl oz bottle.

  9. Glad to hear you're recovering! Don't forget Vitamin-Cs! ;) Drink lots of honey too (my mom would recommend ginger honey).

Beautiful swatches and such great picks! I'm loving all the colours you chose here. Chick Me Out -- ahahaha!! I love names like this, so fun and makes me laugh xD Very fitting even for the colour. Not to forget how uplifting the hue is! Always love a good yellow :)

Daisy About You actually reminds me of field of lavenders upon your description of lavender glitters. Hahaha! But of course, the white glitter bits sure resembles daisies :) And I totally agree! She's really good at putting together colours!

A Touch of Glass, impossible not to love. I like that it has the little shimmers in it. Sure gives a nice finish to the overall look. Doubtlessly gorgeous!

Belle of The Mall -- love this! So bright and cheerful! Somehow makes me think of strawberries, but that's all good! :D Such a lovely hue. Hmm.. I have noticed scratches on holographic glitters in my bottle of Cirque XX. But the glitters were really reflective, so it didn't get too bothersome. I dismiss the scratches as normal because, I assume these were mass produced by glitter makers, and it'd be hard to QC each piece one by one (or they should have QC the large sheet). Or at the very least taken steps to ensure the metal foils weren't scratched in the process... Anyway, I'm not too particular with the scratches, but I will cringe if I spotted one with thick crease! And all rationality fades away.. hahahahaha! Darn creases! >.<

    1. Thanks, I feel a lot better now. I just have a lingering cough left. I should try your suggestion of honey... a lot of people have recommended that to me. :)

Thank you so much, I'm glad you like the swatches and the choices! <3 I'm always drawn to happy, cheerful colors, so these four really spoke to my heart. Hehe all the names are just adorable, aren't they? My husband saw "Belle of the Mall" and teased that it's me! Ooh strawberries, yes, it does have a juicy, sparkly berry appearance. I think it's as you say, that these glitters with scratches probably came from the same big sheet. It's not too noticeable in person.. the holographic reflection hides the imperfections well. Creases haha... that would drive me crazy too. :D

  10. My dear Yun, when I placed my order of KBShimmers I could not prevent thinking of you as I saw exactly those shades were made for you - well with the exception of the lilac glitter one as this did not even whisper my name, I just ignored it. They look each and every brushstroke as nice on you as I envisioned!!! My picks were creams only this time round and the yellow one is to date the only one I haven't yet worn. I could eliminate all patchiness by applying a Top Coat over my Base Coat. It semed to have only added not only to the even application but also the squishy finish!!! Lovely picks - as always and beautiful post xxx
