OPI Stay the Night

Hi, you guys! I want to wrap up the Mariah Carey by OPI Collection today with the last of the liquid sands. Stay the Night is a black polish with small red glitters that dries to a matte, textured finish.

Just like the other liquid sands, this one has extra grit particles added in addition to the glitters to enhance and amplify the texture. Formula-wise, this is super easy to work with. It's pigmented, needing just the standard two coats for opacity. And since all the glitters are small and uniform in size, they distribute evenly across the nails without any coaxing.

Now that I have tried the liquid sands, I have to say they exceeded my expectations. I didn't think I would like them at all with the odd texture and the matte finish. I thought they would just be dull and lumpy. But they turned out to have a lot of depth and are quite sparkly. The texture does bother me a little bit because I tend to fidget and run my fingers over my nails constantly. I guess if I can't get used to them, I can always just add top coat to fix that.

I would love to know what you think of the liquid sands and this collection in general. Will any of them be making it onto your wishlist? What do you think of the textured polish trend?

You can find Stay the Night at your local nail salons and beauty stores for $9 for 0.5 fl oz.

  1. I don't have any of those textured polishes yet. I am waiting for one bottle of Zoya's Pixie Dust collection, so I can't comment on whether I like the texture or not. I can't quite imagine that I will, though, because like you I like to run my finger over my nails and enjoy the smooth surface. I bet the gritty texture would bother me. However I plan on wearing them with top coat because someone said that gives the polish a lot of depth, which I love!

    1. I think they look pretty awesome with top coat! You can also try with a matte top coat. That would keep most of the polish's intended matte look and you would get a smoother surface. :-)

  2. Saving the best for last! ;) I overall tend to dislike this finish. I don't quite like it in the pictures, and I would probably hate the feeling of it on my thumbs or lips. With that said, I would absolutely purchase this one and add several coats of top coat, because its glossy version is just stunning :)

    1. Hehe I'm glad you like this one! I think they look pretty fantastic with top coat, so if you love glossy, that's definitely a good way to go. :-)

  6. This is the colour of the four liquid sands that I like the least. I still like it though, I just have a feeling that it might be too dark for me :)

    1. It is a little dark. It's pretty, but an odd color against my skintone too. :-)

    1. The texture definitely takes a little getting used to. They look great with top coat, or you can always try a matte top coat if you like the matte finish but want a smoother texture. :-)

  10. This is my favorite from the liquid sands. I wonder how the matte finish impacts how long-lasting the polish is. How much wear did you get? That's my question ;) Any thoughts?

    1. Hmm good question. Unfortunately, I only wore it for a day, but it wore well then. I'll let you know if I get a chance to try this for longer. :-)

  14. This is my favourite from what I've seen! It reminds me of embers. It would look sooooooo cool if the glitter were different sizes of orange!

  15. A great review of the liquid sand polishes. I could not decide which one to take and treated myself with the mini-set! So far I only tried Can't Let Go and totally loved it. I don't mind the textured finish - ever since Deborah Lippmann's Mermaids Dream I am actually quite addicted to them

Right, Mermaids Dream is quite bumpy! I only wear that with lots of top coat lol. :-)

  17. This is the only LS polish I bought but I haven't tried it out yet. I'm not sure if I'm entirely sold on it but I guess it'll grow on me! :)
