Zoya Magical Pixie - PixieDust for Summer 2014

Hi, you guys! We're on like day 11 of a heat wave and the house has been so hot for so long that it's hard to get it cooled down. But relief is finally coming this weekend and I can't wait! I keep catching myself daydreaming about cool breezes on my face and sleeping beneath cool sheets. :)

Today, I've got Zoya's PixieDust offering for Summer 2014 to show you. This Magical Pixie trio, Zoya's second Magical Pixie set, offers the matte texture that we've come to expect in PixieDusts plus the amazingly sparkly holographic glitters we saw in the first Magical Pixie set.

Bar
Bar is a nude champagne color with various sizes of holographic glitters, and my favorite of the three. The understated base allows the holographic glitters to flash and sparkle like crazy on the nails. I used three coats for the swatches.

Ginni
Ginni is a rose pink color with various sizes of holographic glitters. I used three coats for the swatches.

Arlo
Arlo is a magenta purple color with various sizes of holographic glitters. I used three coats for the swatches.

The formulas on these are pretty consistent, needing three coats for sufficient coverage. They do not have the microshimmers that filled the spring Magical Pixies, so their jelly base is more exposed and they appear thinner on the nails. Even at three coats, you can still see some visible nail lnes.

Overall, because of the thinner coverage, you have to wear these at three coats and they look too textured and chunky for me at that. I would instead wear these layered over other colors. I loved layering the spring Magical Pixies and think these would be perfect candidates for that too.

What do you think of this collection compared with the spring Magical Pixies and PixieDusts in general? Have you tried layering them? Let me know your favorite combos in the comments below. :)

You can find Magical Pixie shades on Zoya.com for $10 for each 0.5 fl oz bottle.

  1. Oh my gosh, 80 degrees at 11pm last night... I love the heat but I might be just a little over it, too. The amazing thing about Bar is it's ability to look beautiful on any skintone... I've yet to see a swatch that doesn't look fantastic, which is a rare thing, indeed. And you are singularly ROCKING Ginni! I wasn't too keen on these when they came out but I find myself reaching for Bar and Arlo often, because they're so unusual; and something about this particular finish and texture, more so than the spring Magicals, makes these feel very summery to me.

    1. Yikes, that's hot! I think we're in the same heatwave, but since you guys are more south than we are, you're getting an even larger dose of it. I agree with you on Bar... it's a fantastic neutral that's flattering on almost anyone and I can't wait to layer it on top of another neutral to bling it up. :) Arlo looks sooo good on you, I have to say. These seem more summery to me too... maybe because they're more sheer and the jelly finish shines through. There's something about jelly finishes that make me think of jello and jam, which I associate with summer time lol. :D

    1. Yay I'm glad you like these! They're so sparkly and fun... I can't wait to try out some layering combos with them. We're suppose to get a cool-down this weekend (finally!). Hope you get some relief from the heat soon too. :)

  3. Thank goodness for air conditioning. I would not be able to function happily without it. I'll be happy to share this cool air bliss with you. I love summer but I don't like hot sticky nights and heavy humid air.
I've ordered 2 of those new Pixie Dusts from Zoya but they are on back order so I am still waiting...

    1. I love summer for the cute dresses I get to wear and the abundant sunshine, but I hate the oppressive heat and the sleepless nights. Most of the homes here don't have A/C because it supposedly doesn't get that hot here, but they lie lol because it does! Ooh hope you get your Zoyas soon! Darn them for being so popular and backordered. :)

  4. Even if the glitters are a bit on the big side some of them - these look so delicate and pretty!

    1. I'm glad you like them! They're definitely very pretty, and layering them over another base keeps the glitters from overwhelming the nails. :)

  5. I'm a bit underwhelmed with Magical Pixies in general, but I'm not a fan of chunkier glitter in textured polishes so that was to be expected.
Of these three I only like Bar because of its unique colour for a textured polish, but on you I like Arlo. It goes so well with your skin tone.

    1. The Magical Pixies are all about chunky glitters, so if you don't love that, I can see why these aren't for you. I really like Bar too. I adore neutrals that have shimmers or glitters because it's such a fun way to spruce up an otherwise straightforward color. :) I like how Arlo looks on me too. All three colors turned out to be very easy to wear and flattering. :)

  6. I love the look of Ginni! I know what you mean about the heat. It's nigh on unbearable. Next week should be a few degrees cooler though.

  7. Arlo is my favourite, probably because it's the darkest of the bunch. Glittery goodness for sure :)

    1. These are definitely quite chunky, even for textures. I'm loving Arlo too... it's a beautiful purple shade. :)

  12. Wow I really like Ginni and Arlo. Bar is a bit too brown for my liking. Great post Yun :-D

When I hear Arlo - I can't stop thinking it's Arlo Guthrie - but that's not right lol!

    1. Haha. :) Bar makes me think of Bar Refaeli cause that's the only person with that name that I know of. Thanks, I'm glad you're a fan of the pink and purple. They are so pretty and sparkly in person. :)

  13. Beautiful swatches! I personally don't like the chunkier look of these though I prefer the earlier Zoya textures ex tomoko and Carter :)

    1. Thanks! Though I love the chunkier Magical Pixies, I also love the earlier Zoya textures and hope Zoya comes out with more of them. Tomoko and Carter are also two of my favs. :)

  14. These look really magical, I love Ginni the most *__*
I still haven't got any Pixie Polishes (I know, shame on me) so I can't say what I think of them compared the those ones before but from swatches I think they are all very pretty. ^.^

    1. It definitely feels like every year is hotter than the previous. We're finally getting a few cool days and I'm just so happy. :) I love Bar too. The sparkles add a nice bling to the nude base. :)

  16. I did a gradient with Bar over mint green shimmer (another Zoya whose name I'm forgetting now) and liked that a lot. I also liked Monet layered over these--smooths them out and adds even more sparklies.

    1. Oooh! I'll have to try that. I love Dillion and can imagine how pretty it looks with Bar. And great idea on Monet. I haven't used Monet much, but putting it over the magicals to tame them sounds like it could work well. :)

  17. Hmmm... Honestly, I don't like these spring and summer Pixie Dusts. I have Vega and I don't like wearing it, it's too rough. I prefer Pixie Dusts before the 2014, I have a few. I guess it's better for me to layer them... still I haven't done that.

    1. Yes, definitely try layering them over a similar color. For me, it helped tone down the extreme texture of these colors. :)
