China Glaze Pink Voltage

Hi, you guys! Hope it's a pleasant week for you! :)

Now that summer's here, it's time to break out my favorite neons and brights from storage and add them to the rotation. (Although if I were honest, I would admit that I don't have to break out anything because I wear neons all-year round. :P) A favorite of mine year after year is China Glaze Pink Voltage.

It's hard to believe, but it really is as bright and intense of a pink as it shows in the pictures! Sometimes I have trouble capturing shades this bright, but I managed to do all right this time. This color is gorgeous, both in pictures and in person. It's just the perfect shade of pink, not too cool or warm to my eyes, with a hint of shimmer that adds an interesting pearly glow to its neon satin finish.

I don't have too much trouble with application. It goes on pigmented, and dries faster than usual (something I've seen in quite a few neons), so you can't go over the same area too many times or it will get streaky. I did two coats for the swatches, which is good enough for me, but there are still one or two uneven spots if you look really closely, so a third coat wouldn't hurt.

Though this is one of my favorite colors, I do wish it lasted a little longer on the nails. Because of its neon formula, it starts chipping quite soon. If I wear this without top coat, chips usually start appearing after a day. With top coat, it will last an extra day before the chips start to set in. But even with its short nail-duration, I still love this color. No one does neons like China Glaze, and one of my favorite things about this is that you don't have to do a white base coat first. I can never get the edges of a coat of neon color on top of a white base coat to line up, so I'm really thankful that there are neon polishes out there that "pop" even without that requirement. :)

Do you wear neons in the summer time? Is there a particular shade that's your favorite? I'd love to know. :)

  2. What a pretty neon pink! I do find that most CG neons chip pretty quickly though.

    1. I've had good luck with the neons from the summer 2012 collection (I'm With the Lifeguard, Love's a Beach, Sun Kissed, Splish Splash, etc.); they usually last a week on me with no problems. But the older neons give me trouble (like this one and Turned Up Turquoise). I wonder if they reworked the formula for the 2012 collection to make them better. :)

  5. Eh? Is it really summer already? I thought Spring was just here! >.< It's kinda like Summer now in my country ahahahaha so I'd go with anything, depending on the weather of particular day or what inspires me or mood?? Hahaha!

But this is interesting, I never knew China Glaze does great neons. Maybe these are not available in my country. Pink Voltage looks so true to its name! Such a vivid colour and what a bonus it didn't need the help of white. There should be more neons like these! XD Though not my kind of pink, there's no deny on how gorgeous this shade is. I probably like slightly darker tone of pink (similar to Lolly, I guess o.O). Hehe!

    1. We've been having a couple of heat waves in the last few weeks, so it feels like summer here. :) Oh, I hope you had can China Glaze neons in your country. I think they make some of the best ones. For other neon colors, you should check out the shades in the ChG Summer 2012 Neons. That's an amazing collection, in my humble opinion. :)

  6. Well there you go again. I'm not a huge neon fan, but I'll be hanged if you don't make it look gorgeous!! Pinks look so fantastic on you. I think you could make me buy a half-eaten blueberry muffin. Congratulations. :P

    1. Haha! It's totally easy to make already gorgeous colors look so in pictures. :) I'll have to keep in mind about half-eaten food... sometimes I do need extra change. :P

    1. Neons are awesome all year. When the weather's really dreary, having a bright color on my nails really cheers me up. :) From swatches I've seen, Flip Flop Fantasy looks amazing!

  8. Hi Yun - those pictures are buzzing!!! You did an awesome job in capturing that neon brightness. I prefer the neons you can wear on their own too - I find if worn over white they get a starkness that doesn't add one bit to the neonesque feel but flattens the look (OMG do I make sense?). Anyhoo pinks and you are pot and cover and now my nails itch to get some brights on <3

    1. Hi Christine! Yes, I totally know what you mean. For me, neons that need a white base just doesn't look as complex and interesting as though that can stand on their own. It's one of the reasons I like Pink Voltage so much. Hehe thanks, it's rare that I find a pink I don't like. :)

  13. This is SO GORGEOUS on you!! I'm, like, super excited about pinks right now, anyway, but this is seriously perfect on you. And, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't use a while base for my neons. If it's that bright and that sheer, I probably won't even bother. I'm really curious about the OPI neons this year, though. Have you seen them yet?

    1. I'm so glad you approve of this, Liesl! Every time I wear this color, it makes my heart skip a beat from how gorgeous it is. :) I haven't tried the OPI neons myself, but from previews and early swatches I've seen, it looks like it needs the white base in order for the colors to pop, which is a little disappointing. I'll see as more swatches come in though... maybe I'll change my mind.

    1. Thanks Essie, I'm amazed I was able to capture the neon too. Usually my camera totally barfs at that and I end up with some color in the pictures that doesn't really resemble the original. :)
