Hi, you guys! Happy hump day, as the camels would say. Half of the week is still left, but I'm already counting down the days till the weekend. :)
Today, I've got a color that is well-known in the nail polish world to show you. NARS Orgasm is a cult favorite, with an eyebrow-raising name and a high price-tag. It has been on my wishlist for quite some time, so I was thrilled when I finally got my paws on it.
It's a soft, blush peach with tons of strong golden shimmers. The formula is on the sheer side, which is evident after the first coat, though the coverage does build up. What you see in the swatches is three coats, and it still has some visible nail lines at that, but the slight bit of sheerness doesn't bother me and I would wear it like that.
I love how strong the golden shimmers are, but they do contribute to making the whole polish look orange, which is a bit disappointing. I had hoped it would retain more of its signature soft blush color once on the nails, but with each coat, it gets more orange, which is another reason I wouldn't go past three coats.
Overall, I'm torn on this polish. On the one hand, I love the idea of it and it looks stunning in the bottle. But once on my nails, combined with my skintone, it loses some of its charm and takes on a more prosaic orange hue, though it's still lovely. To be honest, I'm not sure it's worth the full retail price of $19. Thankfully, my bottle was pre-owned and I got it for a really good price, so I don't regret buying it and am super happy to fulfill a long-time lemming. :)
What do you guys think? If you have this, do you love it? Has there been a polish that's a huge lemming of yours, and did it live up to your expectations?
Oh my I do like this polish and I love the shimmer! <3 I think it looks nice on you :-)
ReplyDeleteI had been after China Glaze's IDK for ages and paid over the odds for it! When I wore it I was so pleased with how it looked. :-)
Thanks, I'm glad you like it! I love the shimmery goodness too. :) Yay for your lemming living up to your expectations! I just looked up swatches for IDK and it's a beauty! :)
DeleteI think it looks good on your nails ;) I love the colour <3
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm glad you like it! <3
DeleteIt does look lovely, but thee coats + price tag = I am as torn as you are! I like it on you, though it's not my favorite!
ReplyDeleteYes, if only it wasn't so expensive, then the choice would be clear! But it is pretty. Thanks, I'm glad you like it on me. :)
DeleteWhat a pretty peach! I just love the golden shimmer running through it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm glad you like it! The shimmers in there really are very pretty. :)
DeleteI don't have it and it would definitely not look good on me. I think it's looking lovely on you though :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm glad you like it on me at least! :)
DeleteI think it looks gorgeous on you. I'd love to try it as well, but agree with you on the price tag of $19 being a bit much. Love your posts!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! <3 I'm glad you like it on me. If only it wasn't so expensive, then the choice would be clear. :)
DeleteI love that you used the word "prosaic" :) I've been lemming after this one, too, and I know I'd adore the finish and not mind the vnl because it's just kinda sexy in certain colors. The Orgasm line seems to be hit and miss... I adoooooore the blush (in fact, I haven't worn it in far too long; I should bust that sucker out today). The lipgloss is rather horrid, at least on me, and I'm not one for layering my lippies and I guess that's the idea. I go back and forth on the polish. My friend Candice got her hands on one, too, and was also happy that she didn't pay full price for it, but... yeah... it just looks so pretty in the bottle!
ReplyDeleteHa thank you for noticing. I admit I patted myself on the back when I worked that word in. Yes exactly, sometimes a little vnl is appropriate for the polish and can be sexy. :) Ooh I've heard wonderful things about the blush... I'll have to check it out next time I'm at Sephora. When I got the polish for—I think it was—$10, I was like score! The retail price is what really stops me from fully recommending this polish, but if you can get it for a better price, it's definitely worth it. :)
DeleteI love Orgasm blush and this actually looks like a pretty good representation of it in polish form. I love how shimmery it is.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely have to check out the blush... I've heard of wonderful things about it. :) I'm a big fan of the shimmery goodness in the polish too!
DeleteSuch a beautiful colour! I would love to buy it but the price tag is putting me off. I'll have to try find a dupe or a time when I need a really good treat!
ReplyDeletex x
I'm glad you like it! It's really beautiful, though unfortunately pricey. I haven't found a dupe for it, but if you do, I'd love to know. :)
DeleteIt wouldn't be a nice color for me, but it's perfect for you - and whoha, that shimmer, love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Maria! I think the shimmers in here are pretty special too. :)
DeleteHi Yun - like Liesl I was wowed by your choice of words "prosaic" - how utterly pefect! I also don't mind vnl if there is shimmer or glitter swimming in that sauce however it is a pity that the shimmer tweaks the base to a level where I suspect it will lean to much to anybodies skin tone shifting either orangey or pink. And great to have found a decently priced bottle - who cares for the result if it was such a bargain - LOL (just kiddin). But maybe if you layer it over one of the coral Zoyas????? Have a lovely day xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Christine! Hehe I totally patted myself on the back for that word. ;) You're right, if the price is good, it makes the polish so much better! Good idea on the layering. I'll have to try it out.Maybe over a pink or coral base will shift it towards the shade I desire. <3
DeleteAwh Yun I'm sorry you where not 100% impressed with the polish, I hate that after lemming for something for so long. I have to say I think it looks pretty beautiful. I've loved Nars Orgasm blush for as long as I can remember and I think they did a good job of capturing that in a bottle. Just a shame that you feel it clashes with your skin tone; I think it looks pretty nice on you! <3 xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm glad you think it looks good! It's definitely pretty and I love the golden shimmers in there. Even though I think it isn't the best fit with my skin tone, that definitely won't stop me from wearing it hehe. A few of the other comments mention the blush too... I'll have to go check it out. It sounds gorgeous! <3
DeleteHi there! :) what a beautiful shimmer, simply stunning. I'm sorry this polish was a little bit of a let down, maybe layering will help?
ReplyDeleteThanks Lydia, I'm really liking the shimmers too! I think layering is a great idea. Maybe putting it over a pink or coral will pull the polish more towards the shade I want. :)
DeleteI really like this colour is so elegant :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm glad you like it! :)
DeleteThis is such a beautiful shade! So understated and lovely :) xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm glad you're a fan of this! I think it's really pretty too. :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful color! I have always wanted the Orgasm Blush and I didn't realize there was a nail polish....where have I been? Great swatches.
ReplyDeleteUnder a rock hehe. :P Thanks, I'm glad you like it! <3
DeleteI love NARS Orgasm blush but haven't tried the polish.
ReplyDeleteI had the same issue with Orly Royal Velvet... it was a bit sheer but as I added more coats the shimmer took over and covered the base. Maybe try layering this one over a similar peach base color?
I was disappointed with NARS Purple Rain although it wasn't a huge lemming. I bought it on impulse because it looked gorgeous in the bottle with all the different colored shimmer but it just fell flat for me on the nail. :(
So many people speak highly of the blush. I'll have to check it out. :) Yes, it's exactly that the shimmers take over with too many coats. Good idea with the layering!
DeleteIt's always a bummer when a lemming doesn't live up to expectations. From swatches I've seen of Purple Rain, it looks beautiful. But it could be one of those colors where it looks more amazing in pictures than in real life.
