Zoya Carmen

Hi, you guys! Happy Thursday (the day before TGIF... hope I make it)! :D

Today, I've got the color that started it all for Zoya to show you. Carmen is Zoya's first color, with the auspicious number code "ZP001". It's the quintessential classic red, slightly cool-toned with a cream finish.

Unlike traditional cremes, Carmen has a slightly squishy, jelly-like consistency. I love finishes like this because application is so easy, with each coat just gliding onto the nails. It's richly pigmented so that you can almost get to opaque coverage in just one coat, though it will look a little bit pinker at that. To assure the richer red that you see from the bottle, I stuck with two coats for the swatches. It dries quickly and to a glossy shine.

Reds can look a little different on each person, and I feel this is one of those colors. This isn't my favorite red on me because my skintone makes it look a little harsh, but I have a friend who makes this color look absolutely stunning. Carmen is her favorite red polish, so I'll probably end up giving my bottle to her haha.

What do you think of Carmen? Do you have a favorite red polish? Let me know in the comments below. :)

  2. It is very classy and pretty. I like my reds to be a bit richer and darker, but I have a similar nail polish to Carmen. Just in case :D

  3. This is such a stunning red! You really can't go wrong with the shade of red.

My favourite red for a long time was Rimmel's Hot Fever then appeared Max Factor's Wine Red. And then China Glaze's Ruby Pumps! The latter two are my husband's favourite reds too :-)

    1. Red is the classic nail polish color. I think when people think of nail polish, they automatically associate it with red, so it's great to have a few stunning reds around. :) All three of the reds you mention are gorgeous! Hehe it's funny that your hubby has favorites... mine does too. I know which ones are his favorites on me. :)

  6. Hi Yun, Carmen is such a beauty!!! I like it on you though get what you mean by the contrast to your skintone - this sort of red also are not the best next to my skin. My current favorite: Picture Polish Love but I have to admit, I change my preferences every so often ;-) <3

    1. Hi Christine! <3 Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Reds are so personal... what looks stunning on one person may look meh on someone else. I haven't heard of PP Love (where have I been?), but I just looked it up and it's beautiful! With so many new red polishes coming out all the time, it's hard to hold onto a favorite for too long. ;)

  8. I love classic reds like this! My personal favorite red is Essie Trombone. I love the super shiny slightly squishy jelly look it has to it. I don't own very many reds though to be honest

    1. I love slightly squishy finishes on classic reds... there's something about that combination that's just gorgeous! I own quite a few reds, but I don't wear them that often, now that I think about it. I tend to gravitate towards pinks, greens, and blues more. :)

  10. Just gorgeous! What a perfect red on you, Yun ♥ Carmen reminds me somewhat of Butter London Come To Bed Red, which was my favorite for a long time. Now I think that spot belongs to Zoyas Rekha and Livingston, as I've learned I prefer my reds straight up creamy and not crelly, and one is perfect for cool weather and one for warm.

    1. Thank you, my dear, I'm glad you approve! Ah, Rekha and Livingston are beautiful too and definitely more suited to you if you prefer your reds to be strictly creme. They are both so classic and glamorous, which is exactly what I picture you loving. :)
