Just like the other two polishes in the collection, Opal's base is mostly sheer, resulting in only a hint of green on the nail when applied by itself. It really come alive when it is applied over another color. I tried Opal over Bevin in my swatches, and you can see that the green and blue flakes look sparkling and interesting on Bevin's more muted green color.
One of the reasons I reach for flakies when I am looking to add a bit of sparkle on my nails and not for the more traditional glitter polishes is because of the effort involved in removal. Flakies are so much easier to remove than glitters, and are almost as easy as a metallic or glass fleck polish. They don't need the foil method. If you have held back from glitters in the past because of the painful removal process, flakies just might be the substitute for you. :-)
Do you have Opal? What colors have you worn it on top of that you particularly like? Do you find flakies easier to remove than glitters?
You can find Opal on Zoya.com for $8 for 0.5oz.

I just did a mani with this! I love it! I agree that flakies are easier to remove than glitter. I hate removing glitter, but it's hard to resist using it because it's so pretty!
ReplyDeleteYay Opal love! <3
DeleteI forget sometimes that glitters are so hard to remove, and then when I go to remove the glitter polish, I'm like "d'oh!" :D

I agree with Bethany, flakies are a lot easier to remove than glitter. I found this really good acetone in Walmart that that removes glitter really good.
ReplyDeleteThanks goodness for flakies! I just can't bear to put acetone on my poor nails, so I use non-acetone remover, even for glitters. It takes forever! lol. :-)

I love flakies but hate glitter-does that make sense??? Only to addicts right?!?!? This is pretty!
ReplyDeleteIt totally makes sense. I love flakies, but are indifferent towards most glitters, although I occasionally find one I can't live without. I think my issue with glitters is that most so pretty in the bottle, but don't quite live up to my expectations once they are on my nail.
