OPI Muir Muir on the Wall

Hi, you guys! :-)

Today, I've got another color from the OPI San Francisco Fall Collection to share with you. Muir Muir on the Wall has a dark smoky brown base with tons of purplish burgundy shimmers that come out to play when the light hits it.

If you're like "hey, this kind of looks familiar", you're not alone. Shimmery vampy shades seem to be a forte of OPI's and we've seen a few similar colors from last year's fall Germany Collection. The first coat of Muir Muir is a little on the thin side, but the second coat does a good job of filling almost everything in, so I left it at that for the swatches.

After some reflection, I think I have a love/hate relationship with colors like this. They are so pretty and glowy under strong direct light, but so blah in the shade. And since fall is a time marked by darker skies and less light, I'm not sure it's really the best time to show off polishes like this to their potential. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. :-)

You can find Muir Muir on the Wall at your local nail salons and beauty stores such as Ulta and Dillard's for a retail price of $9 for 0.5 fl oz.

  1. I think it's very pretty, but you're right. These type of shades do look best under bright light and here in Sweden the fall and winter is the darkest time of the year. Though I think it would look (and feel great to wear it) a bright, fall morning.

    1. I'm glad you like it! :) The fall and winter is pretty dark here in Seattle too. And it's so rainy during that time that there's rarely a clear day. Good thing it's still summer. ;)

  2. Well, I love this sort of polish (and this one looks so much better in your photos than in most of the other swatches I've seen) and I usually wear them in summer because the shimmer looks best then.

    1. Ah, wearing these in the summer is a great idea! Then you'll definitely show them off to their full potential. :)

    1. Yea I can understand. These colors look so wonderful in pictures, don't they? The bright lighting and closeups do bring out those wonderful shimmers.

  4. I personally think vampy shades like this are magnetic, because I am magically drawn to every one of them. I guess I'm just a vamp. :) But you look great wearing this color! :)

    1. The slight duochrome is really cool for sure. I'm glad you think so. :)

  6. I don't like polishes that are blah in the shadow because I spend way more time in the shadow than I do in the sun!
Having said that - this does look really pretty in the sun!

    1. Haha I also spend more time in the shadow than in the sun, unfortunately. But I'm glad you like the way this looks in the sun. :)

  8. You make a really good point about duochromes in fall/winter. Unless they're super strong, which just doesn't seem to happen anymore, a lot of the beauty will likely be lost... Even so, this is the one I've been MOST excited for int his collection and I have to buy all the duochromes so I'll get it, regardless, lol. FTR your photos of it are gorgeous and it looks as lovely on you. :)

    1. Thanks Liesl, I'm so glad you like this! I'm always afraid vampy glowy shades and duochromes won't translate well into swatches, so it's lovely of you to say. :)

  11. It's really pretty, but I don't know why I had never really thought about the whole winter/summer lighting situation before! None of my dark shades like this ever look right in the winter. I still buy em though :D

  13. Hi Yun - Muir Muis is beautiful on you!!! I know what you mean about the invisibility of the shimmer in certain lights - HOWEVER, I love that it just peeks here and there when you move your hands and all of a sudden gives a bright shimmer and one actually wonders where it came from. So I do like them for autumn as well ;-)

  14. I'm not sure about this one... I love last year's Germany picks and this one has too much green for my liking.. but then again I haven't seen it in the sun yet! So maybe I will splurge, who knows? =)

    1. I often end up splurging for colors I didn't like right-off-the-bat myself hehe. This one isn't too green, but definitely more so than the ones from Germany Collection.

  15. I totally agree with you, this is for a sunny day out in winter, otherwise it's just a browny-red polish. I will skip this :)
